Sen Club

Founded in 2015, Sen Club is our weekly discussion group that delivers unparalleled diversity of academic speakers to our members

Sen Club is our weekly discussion group, where we dissect diverse and pertinent topics in economics with prominent economists and academics in an informal setting. Sen Club convenes every Tuesday evening at 32 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, offering plentiful opportunities to further your understanding of economic concepts and network with other students and foremost professionals over complementary drinks and nibbles.
Thus far, we have hosted more than 43 speakers from such prestigious universities as Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, and the London School of Economics, and want to broaden our scope to include economists of wider background and research focus. Our speakers included several recipients of the Nobel Prize in Economics, most recently Peter Diamond, Paul Milgrom, Oliver Hart, and Eric Maskin.
We strive to record as many of our Sen Club sessions as possible and upload them to our YouTube channel, such that you could catch up on any events that you might have missed.

In the coming years, we aim to improve the Sen Club experience through the following measures:

Having successfully adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to continue hosting Zoom sessions to access international speakers, who might otherwise be unable to enter the United Kingdom, alongside resuming in-person gatherings.

We are fortunate to have welcomed 6 Nobel laureates last year, and hope to invite more researchers of such impressive calibre and open Sen Club doors to those economists who work for such institutions as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank or advise the government.

We plan to establish a downloadable calendar for future Sen Club sessions to ensure that our members easily know when, where, and how Sen Club talks are happening and continue integrating technology into the Economics Society activities.

To forge tighter connections between the Sen Club subcommittee and our members and empower us to bring more speakers onto campus, we hope to organise a mentorship scheme, whereby subcommittee members share their outreach expertise.
