Séverine Toussaert – Experimenting and Learning from Failures: A Behavioural Science Perspective on the Making of Science

22.02.2022 @ 18:00 - 19:00

On February 22, 18:00-19:00 GMT, we are delighted to be hosting Séverine Toussaert, Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Oxford.

Everyone is invited for this in-person event in 32 Lincoln’s Inn Fields L.104, which will be followed with time for informal conversations and snacks. Please, sign up for the session: https://bit.ly/3I1OaiU.

Across the past decades, science in general and economics in particular have become more empirical and mathematically driven than ever before. A “replication crisis” has however cast doubt on the credibility of empirical research. Contributing factors ranging from publication bias to questionable research practises likely have a common root: a strong emphasis on “successful results”, with a more limited concern of how the research is actually made. Professor Severine will also go over the main lessons she has learned from more than 10 years of engagement in behavioural science research and experimenting with failures, with the hope that we can all become better at failing!

Sen Club aims to provide an engaging and interactive platform for students to have a taste of the rich field of academia and research. Please note that opinions expressed are not the opinions of the School, nor of the LSE Department of Economics.
