LSESU Economics Society

Economics Society x Salusbury World Refugee Centre

As members of the Executive Committee of the Economics Society, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to volunteer at the Salusbury World Refugee Centre. We were eager to make a positive impact and provide guidance to school pupils who are beneficiaries of the charity.

The event was held at the Alumni Centre, which was a warm and welcoming space. We were greeted by the friendly staff and given a brief introduction to the event. We were then provided with pens, papers, and a list of questions to respond to. The questions ranged from how to apply to university to how to deal with stress and academic pressure.

As we began writing our letters, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of responsibility and duty. We were aware that our letters could make a significant impact on the lives of the school pupils who would be receiving them. We took our time to carefully craft our responses and provide as much useful information and advice as possible.

As we wrote, we reflected on our own experiences and the challenges we faced when we were applying to university. We remembered the anxiety and uncertainty we felt, and we hoped that our letters would alleviate some of those fears for the school pupils. We also shared our own strategies for dealing with academic pressure and managing stress, hoping that our tips would be helpful to them.

Through our letters, we aimed to encourage the school pupils to pursue their dreams and believe in their own abilities. We emphasised the importance of education and the impact it can have on their future. We also highlighted the various opportunities available at LSE and encouraged them to explore their interests and passions.

As an Economics Society, we believe that education is a fundamental right and we are committed to promoting education and providing opportunities for young people to learn and develop. This event provided an excellent opportunity for us to do just that, by sharing our experiences and knowledge with those who need it the most.

The event was particularly relevant to the outreach work of the Economics Society, as we are dedicated to promoting education and economic literacy among young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. This event allowed us to reach out to those who are in need of guidance and support, and provide them with the resources they need to succeed.

Overall, the event was a fulfilling and rewarding experience for us. It reminded us of the importance of giving back to the community and supporting those in need. We left the event feeling grateful for the opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of young people. We were able to contribute to a great cause and make a positive impact on the lives of young people. We hope to continue our outreach work and support initiatives such as the Salusbury World Refugee Centre in the future.

We want to add a special thank you to the LSE Volunteering and Alumni Centres for organising and hosting the event!
