Philippe Aghion – Rethinking Capitalism Post-COVID-19: the Power of Creative Destruction
05.10.2021 @ 18:30 - 20:00
Welcome to the inaugural Sen Club of the new academic year! We are delighted to welcome Professor Philippe Aghion, a Professor at College de France, INDEAD, and the London School of Economics (LSE), as our first speaker in Michaelmas Term.
Join us on October 5, 18:30-20:00 BST to kick off our usual Tuesday evening tradition. Although Professor Aghion will be joining us virtually, all are welcome to attend the talk in 32 Lincoln’s Inn Fields L.104. After the talk, we would be having plentiful snacks and drinks, so feel free to stay behind and chat with likeminded students.
Register for this session at: https://forms.gle/2TsgUQoyUH6KiVz17.
Professor Aghion will be discussing his new book, The Power of Creative Destruction: Economic Upheaval and the Wealth of Nations. Co-written by Celine Antonin and Simon Bunel, this work offers insights into how such economic factors as technological revolutions and globalisation have influenced and are still influencing growth and creativity within economies. Moreover, it explores intervention, imposed to minimise social disruptions and negative side-effects of modern innovation. Professor Aghion will explore this idea further by considering the impact that COVID-19 has had on societies and how capitalism will have to be reimagined following the pandemic.
Sen Club aims to provide an engaging and interactive platform for students to have a taste of the rich field of academia and research. Please, note that opinions expressed are not the opinions of the LSE, nor of the LSE Department of Economics.
